September is World Alzheimer's Month: A time for education and action

September marks World Alzheimer's Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and understanding about Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia globally. Dementia is a growing public health concern worldwide, with Alzheimer's disease being the most common form. This year’s global theme is 'Time to Act on Dementia, Time to Act on Alzheimer’s' which aims to change how people view dementia. It challenges the stigma and discrimination that still surround the condition while showcasing positive efforts from organizations and governments worldwide to create a society that's more supportive and understanding of people with dementia.

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive brain disorder that affects memory, thinking, and behavior, ultimately impacting one's ability to carry out daily activities. It is the most common cause of dementia, accounting for 60-80% of cases. The impact of Alzheimer's is felt not only by those diagnosed but also by their families and caregivers.

World Alzheimer's Month provides a platform to educate the public about the disease, its symptoms, and available support resources. It also encourages early diagnosis and intervention, which can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals living with Alzheimer's and their families.
